Our nomads are unsettled still, in part Because we say that Art and Science should Be equal partners, but when midnight falls, The time the happy partners say goodnight And walk upstairs to bed, we're shocked to think That they should lie together. To entwine Technology and Art seems dangerous and queer. We're used, of course, to Art's redemptive role To render scientists humane, and offer propriation For the pain of Dresden, Nagasaki, For the whales, the smells, the ozone, and our sins. Art ministers to science, sure, but their embrace Still seems perverse, incestuous and strange.
