Think about these words: better than books.
These words make people terribly nervous, because they fear they'll be sold a bill of goods -- that what comes next will be worse, not better. It's the same sentiment that made Shaw's preface, "Better than Shakespeare?", so shocking.
We need this. Books are wonderful. We love them. But they fail us often. They are fragile. They are heavy. They are incomprehensible. They are too numerous.
Better than books. We can, and must. To believe otherwise condemns us all -- or most of us -- to misery, inequity, hunger, and oblivion.
