Do any of them help me find a hypertext I need to read, if I don't know I need it?
Notes:
Much of Jan's talk seemed to allude to past work -- to old papers Chieko dimly remembered from school, to old hypertexts she'd read in English.
His point was that he had not set out to discover a Web page by a 20-something Asian-American that stirred his soul and made him see the world a little differently. He couldn't search for it, because he didn't know he wanted to.
Not finding a hypertext like this is much sadder than picking a bad icon. Usability, he argued, is a domain of percentages: important, but limited. Recall and precision presuppose we know what we need.
