Nor do the skeptics really believe the form of the book to be perfect.
Books are expensive. They have always been expensive. A lasting book today costs about as much as a nice restaurant meal; this was also true in 1789. Few people in today's world can afford to eat regularly at nice restaurants.
If the power of books is not to be reserved for the enjoyment of those born to wealth and power, the books we love are deeply flawed.
