The street where we grew up, the coffee shop where we met our first lover -- these may seem uniquely fine and precious. But, in our hearts, we know that it is our memories that make them special, not their own merits.

So it is for the form of the book. The physical form doesn't really matter: our memories of any object may invest it with power and wonder that are not its own.
