Infrastructure

The big news in this BIG new release is actually so small you can’t see it. We’ve done a lot of plumbing and polishing to remove glitches and bothers, avoiding delays and interruptions that might distract you.

For example, Note Explode… used to slow down if you wanted to explode a notes to make thousands of new notes. When Explode… was first designed, it wasn’t possible to make documents that big. It used to be fast enough, but now it’s blindingly fast.

AI

The Tinderbox Inspector’s Info pane has a new display that reflects the status of the MCP connection. Possible states include disabled in Tinderbox (gray), disabled in this document (lock icon) active (green), and disconnected (red). This is invaluable for setting up AI integration and for keeping track of what’s going on!

Command Bar

The Tinderbox Command Bar gains a host of new capabilities!

The command bar now lets you select any tab or apply any stamp. The command bar also provides fast access to Mark Anderson’s aTbRef, a Tinderbox Reference Manager.

Best of all, you can extend the command bar yourself! Each note inside /Hints/Command Bar becomes a command bar item. The note name is the name of the item, typed by the user. The Subtitle is the description of the item, which is displayed as part of the command bar item. An optional query, $EnabledWhen, allows you to include or exclude an item; if $EnabledWhen is not empty, the item can be selected only if the query is satisfied. For example, this could offer an item to Install Dashboard Control only if the dashboard was not already installed. Your command bar items can either display text in a temporary window, open a URL or a file, or perform a Tinderbox action.

The command bar now uses a much better fuzzy pattern matcher, based on an algorithm for genomic search.

Attribute Browser

The attribute browser now offers flexible bins, allowing you to choose the number of bins for continuous variables, or to lump some values together for discrete values. It’s also much faster!

Actions

Handy new actions let you align notes in the map and createTextLink from one note to another. Plus, lots of new work to make sure complicated json payloads are easy to parse.

There’s a lot more—well over 100 significant improvements since 11.6 (which as only 2 months ago). For all the details, see the release notes in Help Tinderbox Help.

Updates are free if you purchased or upgraded Tinderbox in the past year. You can upgrade from any previous Tinderbox release for just $98.
