Experiment with new tools and add ones you find effective. When you find others you like, please feel free to add them to this list. If you would like us to add your tool, please e-mail it.

Tools come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. You may have different terms for variations on techniques. The ones we present are by no means an exhaustive list. We selected these tools based on the experience and input from our contributors. Management books, coursework, and the following manuals provide extensive lists of useful tools. Many of these sources contain excellent work which you will find useful. (See our bibliography.) Happy hunting!

You can also:

  • Look around.--Become aware of tools and look for tools others are using. Look at research, comparison, and idea generating methods in other studies. Ask consultants, trainers, coworkers, and others what tools they found effective and could recommend. Glance through management books, how-to books, etc.

  • Create and adapt.--Play with tools. Think about what your particular situation needs and tinker with available tools to meet your needs. Contour the application to your needs and purpose. Caution: make sure that the tool is applied consistently!
